HealthWell Pediatric Assistance Fund Recipient
Alicia and her children, Kaleb (16) and Karis (9) live in southwest Minnesota where she is the Manager, Provider Technologies for a healthcare clearinghouse and payment solutions company in the workers' compensation industry. Alicia graduated Magna Cum Laude from Grantham University with a degree in Health Systems Management in August 2017. On December 2, 2015 her daughter, Karis, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes after what was thought to be a bladder infection. After three days in the hospital, Alicia quickly found that her group health insurance plan was simply not enough to cover everything that Karis needs. Having two children to support, she found HealthWell Foundation who provided a grant to help cover prescriptions, Karis' deductible, and most importantly, a continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump which helps to improve Karis' quality of life and better manage the day-to-day challenges of accurately administering insulin for type 1 diabetes.
